A complete overhaul of the art.com homepage, designed to increase the visibility of the depth of the catalog, improve seo performance by prolonging engagement through more interesting (and just more…) content, surfacing more directly-shoppable products, and better romanticize the beautiful selection of art.
Art.com Homepage Redesign
Previous Homepage Layout
Redesigned Homepage Layout
Prior to the redesign, the Art.com homepage featured a full-width hero with an extremely wide aspect ratio. Designers were forced to fit room photography originally shot for vertical catalog pages, resulting in awkward crops and tedious photoshop extension work. Furthermore, the layout limited the number of featured products above the fold.
The Shop Top Categories module was a narrow text-only strip, both uninspiring and easily overlooked—a complete wasted opportunity for a site that sells art.
Our See What’s Trending section failed to offer any hierarchy, dynamism, or meaningful differentiation between the respective categories, and blurred together into a cluttered grey stripe.
All-in-all, the site represented a missed opportunity for a company which claims expertise in the beautiful, uninspiring in surfacing the extraordinary depth of the catalog, unengaging in its lack of content, and lacking in customer-focused seo optimization.
Homepage Hero: Grid Style
The first of two homepage hero options allows for quick design turnaround, expressive showcasing of thematic categories, increased art detail, the ability to shop products directly from the homepage, and more ideal aspect ratios for room photography.
Customer Favorites ↑
The customer favorite module adds circular art crops as an simple icon-like representation of a broad product category, replacing the inert text-only buttons while adding little additional real-estate.
Homepage Hero: Gallery Style
The second hero option has a greater focus on the finished product, showcasing our various product types (framed, canvas, wood mount, etc) and home accessories, while still displaying an expressive sense of the theme.
Featured Collections
The two-tiered structure of the Featured Collections module introduces a much-needed hierarchy, allowing our merchandisers to showcase high-value collections with larger imagery and explanatory subcopy. The more streamlined secondary module provide further opportunities for niche discovery.
Trending Now
Repeating the basic structure of the Gallery Hero for coding and design efficiencies as well as visual continuity, the Trending Now module serves as a sort of moodboard for emerging styles, while offering higher-intent customers a quicker path to checkout.
Value Prop, Recommended, & Product Marketing Modules
The text-only value props provide a breathe of fresh air while inspiring customer confidence. A dynamically populated recommendation carousel uses png shadows and a fixed height layout to give a sense of depth and tactility to an often-uninspiring UX element. The product marketing modules create a flexible home to highlight new and notable site features.
Exclusives & In The News
Surfacing Art.com exclusives signals a key value proposition—art you can only get here—while improving artist relationships and converting on more high-margin products. In the News provides additional open space while demonstrating credibility.
Create Great Walls & Blog
Create Great Walls emphasizes and explains our various substrates while also focusing on our handcrafted, American made finishing. Finally, the Get Inspired module pulls dynamically from our blog in order to keep fresh inspiration at customers’ fingertips and signals our authority with engaging (not to mention SEO-friendly) content.
